Be a total #goalgetter in 2017. Fool-proof guide to making this your best year yet.

Already a few days into the new year + all those ideas you had are quickly falling by the way side. No need to get down on yourself. It’s really not your fault. We, as the collective, usually don’t follow through on things that don’t have a plan. It takes too much mental capacity + will power to have to make impactful change on our own. So I’m here to help.

I know you wanna crush some goals. You want to feel proud at the end of next year. Not like you did this year. 

You've set some goals in the past but had a hard time sticking to them. You know you can achieve anything, you just need some help setting up the systems in order to get you there. 

I got you. 

Setting goals is easy if you’re setting the ones like “eat more vegetables, go to the gym + unplug more”. But those really don’t get you all that excited + they sure as hell don’t make things stick. 

I LOVE goals. I love having goals + I love accomplishing goals. Does it happen every time? Absolutely not. But having a strategy or road map to keep me on track takes a lot of the guesswork out of the day-to-day. 

Knowing what your goals are helps you make decisions more quickly + more inline with your mission. 

SO, today we’re gonna set some kick ass goals. You with me?!

First things first, we must reflect.

We’ve gotta reflect on the good, the bad, the ugly of last year. 

What amazing things happened? Your proudest moment? What mistakes did you make? What did you learn from both?!

What is something you’re so over doing that you wanna it leave behind in 2016? Is it being late? Procrastinating? Feeling burnt out? What is something you want nothing to do with anymore going forward. 

Think about these for a minute. Get real with yourself. The more you really acknowledge these feelings the more we can actually make progress from them!

Next up is creating our big picture vision. This is where you can use your imagination to create the life you’ve always dreamed of. Chances are you’ve already thought of this while daydreaming at some point. 

This is where you think about the most perfect day in your life, 10 years from now. I know, that seems like a long way away, but this helps us get super clear on the smaller picture. By knowing where we want to end up, we can set ourselves up now to get on track.

What city do you live in? What type of house are you waking up in?! Do you have kids? Are you married? Do you work!? If so, what do you do? Do you work out? What kind of activities fill your day?

This is your chance to get super creative. There are absolutely no wrong answers. This is YOUR life. Create it how YOU want.

Once we’ve gotten our big picture out of our brains + onto paper, we can move forward. 

Next, we’re gonna focus on our mind, body + spirit goals. These goals are just as important as the rest of them. This is where we feel into what we want for ourselves in the upcoming year. What things do we want to add to our lives? Remove? How do we want to feel? Do we want to practice more self-care? More rest? OR do we need to hustle + turn it into over drive…

Here we’ll write down how we want to feel in our mind, body + soul. These are smaller goals that help us feel better in the new year. A few examples could be:

-Read one new book a month
-Practice a foreign language using Duolingo five minutes a day
-Meditate every morning for 10 minutes

-Run 3x times a week
-Practice yoga 2x week
-Eliminate refined sugar from my diet

-Volunteer 2x a month at local soup kitchen
-Find an uplifting podcast to listen to weekly
-Explore my spirituality more by reading about new thought leaders

Now that we’ve got a pretty good idea of how we want to feel in this next year, we’re now ready to start planning out our goals.

Starting with our 12 month goal, think of three S.M.A.R.T. goals in the areas of self, health + wealth (or career). If you haven’t heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals you’ve been living under a rock (totally kidding, but not really…). It’s an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant + Timely (or time-bound). 

This method of developing goals has been used for years + is shown to increase the likelihood of accomplishing them. It helps you focus + make purposeful goals that you’ll want to achieve. 

These goals will be written (for the most part) in the past to help you feel into having already accomplished them.

1st example:

12 Month Goal
self: I have taken a two week vacation in italy
health: I have completed 100 Days of Yoga challenge
wealth: I make an extra $5K fa month rom my side-hustle 

{So, these goals are Specific (because they have detail), measurable (because they have numbers attached), attainable (because you’re not trying to save a billion dollars), relative (for the purposes of this example, yes this person wants to do these things), timely (because they are to be completed in 12 months).}

Hoping by now you get the gist, the pattern continues working backwards each month, each quarter.

From here you would break this down into December, November, October goals. Back tracking a little each time in order to make each months goal a little bit more approachable. 

For example, November’s goals could look like this:
self: I have booked my flights to Italy
health: I continue to take two yoga classes per week
wealth: I have launched a new product/service on my side hustle/business + it has brought in “X” amount of money

October’s goals:
self: I have saved $2000 for my flight to Italy
health: I continue to take two yoga classes per week
wealth: I have developed a new product/service on my side hustle/business

See where I’m going with this?!

Once you dig into all of these goals, by the time you reach January you’re goals will look incredibly attainable + possible even easy to manage. 

The idea is to set you up with the best possible way to attack your goals. Feeling less overwhelmed when you start is half the battle.
